Re: Whats the Allardyce excuse today?
Well SA didn't make the usual standard of excuses yesterday and was clearly disappointed as on his word, they had worked on set pieces all week...

For me the problem is that we try to hit the forwards far too early all the time. There needs to be more variety in our play. I noticed that after Song went off and Nene came on we started playing on the ground again. That created a lot of excitement and goal-mouth action and had we started that way....

we seem able to get ready for the bigger teams, but always struggle against those teams we should be able to beat.

Get use to it, it aint gonna get any better this season why he is still here.

Someone needs to tell them that you are judged over a whole season, not just half a season.

Re: Whats the Allardyce excuse today?
SD - We played pretty well against both the teams you mentioned. However, couple of points I'd make about that:

1. Spurs are our main rival and Man Utd the biggest club in the country. If you cannot be motivated for those 2 games, you shouldn't be a professional footballer. Human nature suggests motivating yourself for games v WBA and Palace are harder.

2. Sam's negativity cost us wins in both those games. We were the better side in both until we decided to sit back and try to hold onto the result. Pardew and Pulis both gave recent examples of how you go about holding onto results in the PL (not sit back. Keep playing as you were).

He has a safety first attitude. It's why he likes long, direct balls that get the ball into the opponent's half. Percentage wise, a mistake there is going to be much less costly than one in your own half. It's also why he doesn't trust young players. Too many mistakes while they learn.....

I'd say that we played well recently against Man U and Spurs, but I have to say I share your concerns. Today, other than a few glimpses, the approach reminded me of countless Allardyce games I watched prior to this seasons unexpected start. Slow floated balls to forwards hoping for 2nd ball. Palace were sitting deep and able to deal with it easily.

If I was the man in the Russian hat I'd be working hard to make sure we line up the right man in the summer. Sam has done all asked for him, but isn't going to move us on from there.

Completely agree. I firmly believe that Allardyces negativity, lack of ambition and inability to stop tinkering with the formation has brought us to this position.

Shit result today Tomkins, Song, Noble, Downing and Sakho were terrible

Re: Whats the Allardyce excuse today?
Today was very, very strange.

Apart from possibly Jenkinson, the back four simply didn't show up - the soft set piece goals they let in surely attest to that.

As for the midfield, Kouyate was up for it but was so blatantly fouled out of his rhythm he lost most of his impact, Noble had a go but faded when we were chasing the game and Song was the worst player on the pitch given the playmaker responsibility with which he'd obviously been charged.

So while Valencia and Sakho were lively enough, I think the player that really let everyone down today was Downing. He seems to have suddenly forgotten how to play with the full backs as they press forward, leaving us toothless in attack mode and very vulnerable to the counter.

All in all, half the players didn't show today and I don't reckon it was down to flu or biorhythms.

Re: Whats the Allardyce excuse today?
when your defensive midfielder, in a 4 man diamond of a midfield, attempts the fewest number of passes of the 4, there is a problem with how you're playing your system and what you're asking your players to do.....

The worry is that next season is a consolidation season as nothing in place.

Re: Whats the Allardyce excuse today?
I posted this on the match thread earlier and think it sums up how I feel.....

Had someone try to tell me earlier that this was pretty much the same team that beat City and Liverpool so it's on the players and not the manager.

I say bollocks! The 11 players may have been the same, but much is different. Downing out on the wing rather than the tip of the diamond. Song as the deep midfielder rather than Noble. Valencia playing further and further out on the left wing, especially when we are out of possession. Jenkinson being forced to stay so deep today because we were petrified of Palace's pace on the left wing (that only changed once their guy was sent off). Not pressing high up the field like we were earlier in the season. Long ball from the back rather than building through Song, Noble and Kouyate.

My personal belief is that we were good earlier in the season because the new players hadn't been corrupted by Sam. The longer they're here, the worse they're playing.

His "coaching" is making us, and the players that we have, worse. Song, Downing, and many others are lacking confidence due to his "style". In the 1st half, I lost count the number of times Song came short to receive the ball from Tomkins, Reid or Adrian only for them to ignore him and pump it long instead. Eventually, he just stopped bothering! That's not good for us!!!!

Roeder. Like you I hope we use the rest of this season to give some of the kids a run out. An ideal time to blood a few of them to see how they get on.

Re: Whats the Allardyce excuse today?
Completed 27 of 38 passes. Every one he didn't complete was a forward pass in the opponent's half.....

If you take risks in possession, you are often more likely to give the ball away.

Noble had 70 passes. Why is your best player/pivot in the defensive midfield spot only getting on the ball half as much as your right central midfielder?!

That's tactical and nothing else.....

Re: Whats the Allardyce excuse today?
BFS admits europe chances unlikely (like they were ever a real chance common!) so out of the cup, guaranteed 12/13th ver wors case.. whats to lose for a man looking to the future at West Ham? Play some youngsters!!

Burke for the departing Reid v Leicester perhaps a start?

Re: Whats the Allardyce excuse today?
From the observations at the end of the game I am beginning to suspect that Fat Sam has lost the dressing room.

There dosen't seem to be any 'connection' between the manager & the players any more. Also when Fat Sam sits like a slob all game with a face like a bulldog eating a wasp, it's not exactly inpsiring is it?

Have you EVER seen Fat Sam stand up and really inspire the players?? I've never seen it.

And post match he slags off the players for their performances.

Maybe time for Sullivan tp put hom out to gardening leave? BFS is bloody useless at the moment.

PS Matty moo sounds like a complete IDIOT.
Obviously a Fat Sam relative or something.

Hi Matty moo - I request that you FUCK OFF.

Hope that helps.

Nc, maybe they weren't giving it to song because he was the worse player on the pitch and did nothing but give it away .
